[ad_pod ]When replying to a Leeds supporter on Twitter, Phil Hay didn’t help settle the nerves of the fanbase as he admitted that Kalvin Phillips and Kemar Roofe could be on their way out of Elland Road this summer.
Due to the Whites’ failure to get promoted, they now face a struggle to retain the services of their key players.
What’s been said then?
The Yorkshire Evening Post writer posted an update on social media after a fan tweeted him saying that he hoped the club could keep hold of their star players.
Hay has previously stated that Roofe’s contract may cause problems, and this most recent tweet adds fuel to the fire of the rumour that he will be leaving.
Shouldn’t be surprising
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to any of the Elland Road faithful. Phillips was arguably the best player in the Championship last season, and his performances certainly showed that he is worthy of a Premier League move.
Interestingly, Hay has yet to confirm any interest or bids for the commanding midfielder, even though multiple other outlets have reported that Bournemouth, Norwich and Newcastle are all interested.
The Scot is usually the man to look to when it comes to news surrounding the Yorkshire club, so his silence on this occasion may show that there is no clear favourite for the 23-year-old’s signature.
Roofe is very much in the same boat. Although aged 26 he will be much keener to make the step up to the top flight sooner rather than later.
The Yorkshire club currently can’t offer the striker Premier League football, and after he scored 15 goals last season, his stock may never be higher in terms of getting a move to a top club.
Both players have the same reason to want to leave Elland Road this summer, and until the Whites return to the top flight, they may keep losing their top stars.
