It is difficult to get surprised by transfer fees nowadays due to the regular astronomical figures, but news of Everton’s rumoured £40m bid for Gylfi Sigurdsson has left some football fans in shock.
The Telegraph reports that the Merseyside outfit have stumped up the cash for the midfielder and believe that a deal will be completed this week.
However, Sky Sports claim that his current club Swansea City have turned down the bid as they value the Icelandic international at around £50m.
Rumours that he is on his way out of the Liberty Stadium intensified this morning when Swansea announced that he is not in the right frame of mind to travel with the team to the United States for their pre-season tour.
Everton have been by far the busiest of the Premier League clubs in the transfer window this summer.
With Farhad Moshiri’s backing, the Toffees, who finished seventh last season, have spent close to £100m on new players.
Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen, Henry Onyekuru, Michael Keane, Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney have all been added to Ronald Koeman’s team.
It seems as though Sigurdsson could be the next arrival, but football fans of various clubs are struggling to comprehend the price.
