Wayne Rooney has revealed that Carlos Tevez was his ‘preferred partner’ at Manchester United.
Rooney appeared alongside Jamie Carragher on Monday Night Football, and the 32-year-old discussed a number of topics during his time on the television show.
After the Watford and Chelsea fixture, now Everton forward Rooney was asked which former Man United teammate he preferred playing alongside in the final third of the field.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Louis Saha, Dimitar Berbatov and Robin van Persie are among those that featured alongside Rooney during his time at Old Trafford.
However, Man United’s record goalscorer claimed that he absolutely relished playing with Tevez due to the Argentine’s all-action style.
Tevez spent two seasons at Old Trafford between 2007 and 2009 – winning back-to-back Premier League titles and the Champions League during his time with the club.
Rooney told Sky Sports:
“Tevez would be my preferred partner. We suited each other’s games. Louis Saha was brilliant as well but the thing with Tevez we worked off each other and we’d stick with each other.
“He’d go around and I’d go behind. I’ll always remember it must have been horrible for defenders to face. When we haven’t got the ball we’d be in their face.
‘There was a lot talk when he signed that we wouldn’t be able to play together. We hit it off from the start and played well together. I really enjoyed playing with him.”
Tevez is currently back in Argentina with Boca Juniors following an unsuccessful spell at Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Shenhua.
